Dr. William H. Taylor II - Managing General Partner J. Rudy Henley - Partner Patrick A. Bond - Partner Mr. Bond is a founding General Partner of Mountaineer Capital, LP, West Virginia’s only active SBIC. He came to Mountaineer with a wealth of experience in finance, administration, strategic planning, general management, and information technology. Prior to founding Mountaineer, he was a Managing Director with McCabe Henley, LP. Prior to that he owned and operated an independent consulting practice, Growth Management Group, specializing in the areas of Business Environment Assessments, new product development, investment and financial analysis and strategic planning. Mr. Bond previously served as President & CEO of Atlantic Financial Federal, a $750MM federal savings bank. In addition to his service on boards of numerous portfolio companies, Mr. Bond serves on the board of directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, a $79B wholesale bank serving Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Honorable D. Bruce Merrifield – Chief Executive Officer – Pridco Management Dr. Merrifield was a visiting Executive Professor of Management at the Wharton School of Business from 1989 until 1994, and during the Reagan Administration was both Assistant Secretary of the Department of Commerce for Technology, and Undersecretary of Economic Affairs. At Commerce, Dr. Merrifield’s office spearheaded landmark legislation to modify the antitrust laws to permit successful technology transfers (the Cooperative R&D Act of 1984) and the Technology Transfer Acts of 1984 and 1986. The office developed the R&D Limited Partnership concept and catalyzed the formation of more than 100 cooperative R&D consortia, involving over 1,000 companies, and many innovation centers or incubators in many states and local communities. In addition, his office initiated the Quality Productivity Award, (later renamed the Baldrige Award), the National Technology Medal, and the program of small business shared “Flexible Computer Integrated Manufacturing Centers.” Prior to Government service, he was Vice President of Technology and Venture Management of the Continental Group. Dr. Merrifield is a past member of the Advisory Board for the Bi-national Research and Development Foundation with Israel and is a current member of similar boards with India and France. He has served as Science Advisor to the Jordanian government and as a member of the Visiting Committee for Research at MIT and at Boston University. Dr. Merrifield is a graduate of Princeton University and holds Master and Doctoral degrees in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Chicago.
William C. Miller - Academic Dean and Provost - United States Naval Academy Dr. Miller returned to his alma mater as Academic Dean in 1997 after having served as Associate Provost for Research and Economic Development at West Virginia University. There he was responsible for providing institution-wide leadership for the university's research program, and for developing and guiding the university's contribution to economic development throughout the state. At the same time Dean Miller served as Executive Director and Vice Chairman of the Board for the West Virginia University Research Corporation, a private nonprofit corporation chartered to support and foster the research mission at the university. Before his arrival at West Virginia in 1993, Dr. Miller served in a variety of assignments in the U.S. Navy, the most prominent of which were in the areas of research and development. From 1990 to 1993, then Rear Admiral Miller served as the Chief of Naval Research in Washington DC, and chief executive of the Office of Naval Research. There he was responsible for the Department of the Navy’s $1.5 billion annual investment in science and technology through universities, industry and government laboratories. Prior to that Dr. Miller served as chief executive of the Naval Research Laboratory; founding director of both the Navy's low observable (stealth) technology office and the DOD counter low observable office. In addition to his undergraduate degree Dr. Miller earned his masters and doctor of philosophy degrees, both in Electrical Engineering, at Stanford University.
Thomas A. Heywood – Attorney at Law – Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love PLLC Larry E. Palmer – Vice President Taxation – Massey Energy Company Mr. Palmer joined Massey Energy, a major coal producer that generates $1.2 Billion in sales from 116 subsidiary companies in June 1997. He is responsible for all tax compliance and equipment leasing, and assists with the management of the company’s insurance and bonding functions. Prior to joining Massey, Mr. Palmer served as Director of Taxation for Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Company in Pittsburgh PA. Palmer earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Pennsylvania State University in 1977. Following graduation Mr. Palmer served in the United States Marine Corp. He then earned his MBA in 1979 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Palmer is a Certified Management Account and Enrolled Agent and is active in the Tax Institute and the Institute of Management Accountants.
